Eliz309 Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I'm sure that I am overlooking this. I have a container field with an image for each record. Is there a way to have another field with the filename of the image in the container field? If not are there any suggestions for something similar?
SlimJim Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 (edited) If the container field is called Pic then the calculation GetAsText(Pic) pulls out the filename of whatever is in Pic - the format may not be what you expect and further parsing may be necessary. EDIT I have just noticed that you are using v6. I have no idea if the above is available in v6 or if there is an equivalent. Edited August 9, 2005 by Guest
Eliz309 Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 Unfortunately v6 doesn't have GetAsText. But thanks for the suggestion.
Lee Smith Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Hi Eliz, I don't think you can do this within FileMaker, you will probably need to use something like AppleScript instead. You need to Update your preferences to reflect the OS, Platform and Version of FileMaker. To this, there is a link under your name on the left. HTH Lee
Eliz309 Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 Lee- Thanks for the help at least I know I can't do it. About your note regarding updating my OS Platform and FM Version. I show that these are updated and show up when I post. Is there something that I am missing? thanks, Elizabeth
Boot Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 Søren Dyhr has solved this problem beautifully in another post within this same sub-forum. Look for my post entitled: "Is it really impossible to extract filenames?" You just set up the name field as a text field with an auto-enter calculation, and apply Søren's formula.
