Help with a calculation "if [date field] is >= 12/31/2005"

Please help! I am trying to create a calculation based on If a date field is >= 12/31/2005 then call it [specified text]. However, it doesn't return any results. I realize FM does not store dates this way, but I can't seem to make it work using the Julian dates either. My calculation works if I remove the request for dates.

My actual calcalation is written

If(Contract Probability % >= 50 and Est Construction Start Date <= 12/31/2005,"Projects 2005",

If (Contract Probability % <= 49 and Est Construction Start Date <= 12/31/2005, "Potential Projects - 2005 Projected Start Date",

If(Contract Probability % >= 10 and Est Construction Start Date >= 1/1/2006, "Potential Projects - 2006 or Later Projected Start Date",

"0")))

Try datefield >= Date ( 12 , 31 , 2005 )

Consider using a single Case() instead of nested If()s.

Also note that the 'opposite' of >= 50 is < 50, not <= 49 (in case the value is 49.5).
