How do I select a record to update in a new window?

Featured Replies

I have an application which uses different windows for reading and updating. I have a button on a read window which invokes a script which switches to the other window and updates the selected record.

However I haven't figured out how to select that record in the new window. I try to do a Find, but I cannot find a way of moving the key field into the Find request.

I'm sure it is easy, but I just can't figure it out. Any advice? :

It seems to me that what you're saying is that if you do a find in one window, how do you go to that record in another window. If that is indeed what you're trying to do, you can capture the serial number of the found record in Window A (use a global), then go to Window B and find for that serial number.

Perhaps that's not it - if so, you might need to rephrase the question.

That is precisely what I want to do and I have set up to do that but I cannot find the syntax to move the global field value into the Find Request. I cannot see anyway to move a field value into the find request. I can see examples of how to put in other search parameters but just not a field value. I suspect I am just not following the documentation but I have read the Online Help and cannot see anything which discusses this.

The Set Field script step works just as well in Find mode.

I know that I am being very obtuse here ... but precisely what do you mean by using Set Field? I've already tried that ... but I am sure I am doing it the wrong way ... as I said, I cannot find any examples, but when I do a SET FIELD ... then Enter Find Mode (with or without specified find request) and no pause, then Perform Find, I still find nothing. :

try Entering find mode first, then use set field

:

It's a shuffle game:

Set Field [ globalField ; RecordID ]

...

Enter Find mode

Set Field [ RecordID ; globalField ]

Perform Find

Thanks ... I made difficulties for myself by trying to use the Find Requests. Everything works when you don't look for problems :
