Veronica Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I have two databases, one for testing and one is the real thing. I've created a list view in the test db and it works perfectly. But creating the list view layout in the "real" db in exactly the same way as in the "test" db all I get is a blank white screen. Absolutely nothing is shown in Preview mode. When I switch to Browse mode the list view is revealed but with no records. I can't figure what, if anything, I've done differently. I've redone this "List" view a couple of times with the same result in the "real" db. But again it works perfectly in the "test" db. Veronica
Lee Smith Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Preview mode is what you would see if you were to print the found set. No records = blank form. Do you have records in your found count? Lee
Lee Smith Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 That was so "Briefly" it amounts to no additional information at all. It could be a corrupted layout if there are records in browse. It could be that you have selected all of the fields in layout and the option to "Not Print". That's all of my guesses. Further help might be available if we could see a copy of your files. Lee
LaRetta Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Hi Veronica, And you usually need to put FIELDS on a list layout. I've actually done this (forgotten to put the fields) late at night when brain-dead and then wondered why nothing showed in Browse. Just a thought ... Also make sure your layout is pointing to a valid table occurrence (Layouts > Layout Setup > Show Records From). If not, you'll need to respecify your fields as well. LaRetta
Veronica Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 Lee, you were almost right on, (I think). What I did was copy the fields and such from my test db and paste them on a blank, new layout in the "live" db. I would have thought that would be no problem. But anyway, I created the new layout, fields and all in the "live" db, it all worked. Thank you to you all for your help.
Lee Smith Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Bingo. Copy and pasting layouts can be a time saver when building files. However you need to be sure that you have a field in the New file that matches exactly the name that it has in the file being copied. Other wise, a blank field will be place on the layout as a substitute. Fear not, you can always direct FileMaker to a field to be used instead, by double clicking on it in the layout mode, and selecting your new field. Disclaimer: I haven't had to do this yet in v7, still just kicking the tires. So there may be something that I said that is different. Also, you had to be careful in the prior versions not to "Cancel" out during pointing process, or you would lose the field. A way around this is to select a "Temp" field (any field that exist), and then go into Define Fields, and create your missing field. And then go back and replace "Temp" with it. HTH Lee
