Hello,

Anybody can tell me what does it means if my system logs (OS X 10.3.5) shows this kind of message:

Sep 11 19.40.08 mycomputer- kernel LImiting closed port response from 253 to 250 packets per second

this log is repeated several times.

I think that someone is tryin' to cause a DoS on my machine but, at the same time, I'm asking myself (and now I'm asking you) if this log can be related to FMSA somehow (maybe there's some conflict with the TCP/IP port used by fm web engine)

Any idea?? Any similar experience??

You are being "attacked." The kernel is deliberately slowing down your Mac's network response to the attack.

If the firewall is on, check for firewall log entries. For Mac OS X prior to 10.4, look in /var/log/system.log for firewall log messages. For Mac OS X 10.4, look in /var/log/ipfw.log.

If the firewall is off, turn it on! Attacks usually occur from rogue computers on the Internet, so to be attacked means your Mac is directly connected to the Internet, or that the attack is coming from within you local network.

Most "attacks" are port scans looking for Windows viruses/vulnerabilities, so chances are you won't be affected. but don't rely on chance for security!
