I notice this in FM8 as well in FM7. Here is the situation. I have one database that had a portal when I select an entry in the portal that line turns black when i click on it (which seems normal because I am selecting it). However in another database when I click on a portal in that database all of the records in the portal are highlighted the color of my background and other portals on the layout are highlighted as well. I think in your second database, the portal is transparent.

I acutally I figured out that making the field behavior unable to enter in browse or find mode fixed the problem. Since I have no need to update portal records its a non issue now. Thanks, Ron.
