Zero Tolerence Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I'm getting a very strange bug in FMP8A. In browse mode, I see tool tips. No big deal right? Except these tool tips I didn't create, and its not over anything but a color background. These tool tips say things like "Queen of Hearts" "Jack of Spades" "Eight of Spades" I'm not doing ANYTHING with cards, about 6 months ago I built a little 21 application with FM7D, but I haven't opened it in at least 3 months. Sometimes, my mouse even turns into a hand, like when you mouse over a button. But nothing is on my layout! This still didn't bug me that much, made me laugh really, but those same tool tips are now showing up in Browse mode!
Ender Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 How funny! Does this happen in all layouts or just this one? You may need to recreate the layout.
Zero Tolerence Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 All of them! And, like when I'm defineing fields or something and I have a pop up on my screen. If I hold my mouse over the same spot there I get the tool tip too!
Zero Tolerence Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 (edited) Oh by the way, I've found that its not a spot on my layout, but rather a spot on my screen that calls the tool tip. I can zoom way in and its still the same spot on my screen. I have a little spec of dirt on my screen and its right around there. I knew FMI was good, but tool tips on dirt specs! Wonder if I could change it to "Clean me NOW!" Edited September 28, 2005 by Guest
Ender Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I'm guessing there's a card game on your computer that's told the OS there's a tooltip on that spot, but never freed it up afterwards. Maybe a restart would fix it?
CyborgSam Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Are all Tiger updates installed? Does this happen in standard Mac apps like TextEdit? I suggest clearing all caches and then restarting (there are some shareware utilities to do this if you're not saavy about where they all are & how to Trash them). Also, check your account's login items to see if some sw installed something you don't know about. If this persists, use the terminal right after a restart and enter the comand ps -ax. Browse through the list for any processes that don't look like they belong there (usual paths are /System... and /Library, examine others). If none of this works, create a second user acccount, log into it, and try FileMaker with the same file. If the tooltip appears, the problem is somewhere in /System, /Library, FileMaker.app's path, or possibly the file itself. If none of this works, let us know, I'll put on my thinking cap :
Zero Tolerence Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 I finally found the problem the other day. It was Tigers Dashboard. Apparently I still had a game up on it from the night before. Anyhow, I closed that and they went away. was very strange though. And it only happened while Filemaker was my active application. Bug with Tiger? or bug with FMP8A?
CyborgSam Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Weird, very weird. Not the Dashboard/tooltip issue, but the fact that a FileMaker developer has time to play games. I must be doing something wrong (or maybe I'm just getting too old for this s***)... ;)
