Newbies pleamon Posted October 2, 2005 Newbies Posted October 2, 2005 Sorry if this has been answered before. I'm new to this forum and to FM. I am considering buying either FM7 or FM8 and would like to know the difference, if any, in how they perform over the Internet. I won't need Server 7 or 8 because I'll have the eventual database hosted. Are there the same number of script steps or more that can be used over the web in 7 or 8? Can I create Excel files for reports over the web and then email them to myself or others? Is there any difference between 7 and 8 in the look of layouts as seen in a browser? Are there any other differences I should know about? Pat
CyborgSam Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Pat-> Welcome to the forums! The general info you want is available in FileMaker's sales blurbs on their website, 8's new features are discussed at http://www.filemaker.com/products/fmp/features.html, 7's are at http://www.filemaker.com/products/7/ Another good FM 7 upgrade reference is at http://www.supportgroup.com/upgrade/ To summarize folks on this forum (how I interpreted their posts...), FM8 is usually faster than 7, but the increase is usually not that radical. IMHO, 8's main advantages are easier development and better GUI for the user.
