Any ideas how to format this better?
Lee Smith Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 This seems a like a continuation of the other question you asked, and I responded to. You don't need to start a new thread every time your question evolves. Just continue the original thought until you get your solution. These Columns you are creating, are they in FileMaker, or in an external file? Have you tried inserting a tab instead of the spaces. If this is to set up an export, have you tried to export using the Tabs Delimited Text format? HTH Lee
rezdragon Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 sorry about that! the feilds are imported from a comma delimited txt file. and then i use that calculation to put them into one feild so i can save space and be able to scroll with all of them in there. *Problem* if there is no entry in a certain field then the feilds smoosh all to the left and are hard to read as well as being able to tell what the heck somthign is.
Lee Smith Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Can you attach a copy of your file and a copy of your import text document?
rezdragon Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 OK ATTACHED ARE THE FILES, just use Admin to log into them TESTER.zip
Lee Smith Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Here is your file back. I made two adjustments. I changed your calculation by replacing your spaces between fields to tabs. I change the dates field by including tabs. BTW, I think I would have done this using a self relationship instead. Lee test.fp7.zip
rezdragon Posted October 27, 2005 Author Posted October 27, 2005 BTW, I think I would have done this using a self relationship instead. not sure what you mean by this?
Lee Smith Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 BTW = By the way. I meant that the data you are reflecting with your "dates" field, is the kind you would see in a line item report, and commonly viewed in a portal. Lee
rezdragon Posted October 27, 2005 Author Posted October 27, 2005 yeah i tried a portal but couldn't get all the info to display in the portal the way i wanted it to... unless you have a sugestion as to how i can accomplish that i am open to ideas
bruceR Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 OK ATTACHED ARE THE FILES, just use Admin to log into them Yes, you DEFINITELY need to get the relational bit figured out. This file is a disaster. You have 483 fields when you really need about 10; and all your problems are ocurring because of this design issue.
bruceR Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Your file should look more like this. test.zip
