Migrating over to FM7 and 8

Featured Replies

Well, I bought a VLA from filemaker about a year ago and finally decided to take a look at the migration from FM 5 to FM 7. I would like to combine tables into one DB but I do not want to type in all the fields and scripts. Has anybody made a third party solution for that yet that can be used without developer? I really would love to have the functionality of 7 without redoing all of our databases.

Take a look at FM Robot from at www.newmillennium.com

Is there a way to copy layouts from FM 5 to FM 7?

You have to convert it to FM7 first then copy and paste the converted layouts into the new database.

As far I know FMRobot uses the DDR Report from FMP7 Developer so You will need Developer (or FMP8 advanced) to generate Your fields.

Also the file structure should be adapted in order to optimise Yr FMP6-> FMP7/8 conversion.

If Your applictions are even moderately complex migrating to FMP7/8 with 'consolidation' many files into a reduced set of files can be a daunting task.

In many cases it is advisable to rewrite (with Layout transfer by Cut and paste)
