How do I get a text field to auto-stretch?

Featured Replies

I have a scrolling text input field that has no limits placed on the amount of text the user can enter. I need to place the field on a report and specify that the field stretch vertically to accommodate the amount of text the user has entered so that nothing is clipped off in the printed report.

Instructions I've read say to make the field as big as the largest amount of text the field may hold, but I don't know the largest amount. Could conceivably go for pages (users will be cutting/pasting into the field).

Does FM8 have some sort of "auto-stretch" feature? Is there some sort of workaround to deal with cases like this? Thx.

Hi,Mark! Here i think will help Sliding and printing options. In layout mode stretch text field to all page and use this options.

Hmmm ... created a layout report with the field sized to the full page, then checked all the Sliding options for the field ... previewed/printed report still cut off the data.

I believe the maximum field length in previous versions of FM is around 10 pages. I am not sure if the limit has changed with versions 7 or 8, but you can experiment with stretching the field out for as many pages as you can (or as many as you anticipate) and running test prints.
