Inky Phil Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 I wish to stop the users using their scroll wheel and the right click options in my FM5.5 solution that is hosted on FM server. I seem to recall that I did this through file-access menu but this is not available I presume because I am hosting from the server (the option is not there at all not just greyed out). Do I have to remove the files from the server folder and open them on another machine for this option to become available to me or am I missing something ? TIA Phil
Wim Decorte Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 the scroll wheel is not something you can configure in FM. You need to do this on the OS level. If you're using Microsoft mice then they come with a configuration app where you can specify which apps the scroll wheel should be ignored. You'd need to do the configuration on each client machine though. As to the context menu (right-click), the options available there depend on the user's privileges. AFAIK the only way to take it completely away is through the secureFM plugin.
Vaughan Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Access privileges cannot be changed while the file is hosted. They need to be closed on the server, then opened in FMP and the necessary access privilege changes made. Then close FMP and open the files in FMS again. It is strongly recommended that you do not run FMP on the same box as FMS is running. My preferred working method is to first close the files using the Remote Admin tool from a remote computer. Then go to the server, copy the files onto thumb drive (this creates a backup) then from the thumb drive onto another machine with FMP installed. Open the files in FMP and make the changes and TEST, TEST, TEST. Copy the new files onto the thumb drive and put them back onto the server. Open the files in FMS and test them again. Only then let the users know they can use them again.
