Hello there. Can I edit files over the network with Filemaker 6 if those files were created in FIlemaker 3? Also, do I need Filemaker 5 installed to upgrade to 6, or do I just need the code?

v3 files are not compatible with v5 files.

v5 and v6 are written in the same language, so you can edit v5 in v6 and v6 in v5. There were some features that were added in v6, that you will not have access to in v5.

V6 will convert v3 files.
