November 30, 200124 yr Newbies Hello all, I have a database requirement that I can't seem to figure out. Here goes... After entering an order for a system, I need the database to create multiple purchase orders that will go to each vendor of the parts necessary to build the system. The vendor and customer information and parts list lookup seem easy enough. But it's the multiple purchase orders from one order entry that has me stumped. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, -Rob
November 30, 200124 yr This is a little vague and complex for a quick answer here, but I give it a once over. You'll need a parts list for each of the items ordered (you didn't give a clue of how complex they are). These parts lists need vendor information. Build a composite parts list in a transactions file, sort by vendor and part number, and loop through the records. There is some complex scripting here. If you have multiple items on your order and some have the same parts, you must collapse these identical entries into a single entry on the P.O. Create a new line item each time a part number changes, create a new P.O. each time the vendor changes. That's enough of how to perform brain surgery in one easy lesson. If this isn't enough of a guide to put you down the path, you might want to consider hiring a consultant to give you a hand. What you are asking for is complex, unless your application is VERY simple. -bd
November 30, 200124 yr Author Newbies Sorry for the vagueness, but thank you for the quick response. I will try to detail the issue further. There are 4 systems for sale. Each system consists of anywhere from 5 to 40 parts, purchased from 2 to 6 vendors. After a customer order is entered into the 'orders' database, purchase orders for each of the vendors must be created and sent to the vendors, in addition to customer invoices (but this seems rather easy in comparison to the po's). I know this is complex, and that is why I'm hoping someone here might have a solution. Thanks, -Rob
November 30, 200124 yr Do it with a script, exactly the same way you'd do it yourself. If you don't know whow to do it yourself... then "finding out" is step 1!
December 1, 200124 yr Author Newbies Vaughan, Thank you for your 'help'. I guess I need to find somewhere that us less intelligent people can find help, since this is apparently a place where we must know everything about Filemaker ahead of time. Oh, I forgot, this is actually a Filemaker help forum and...I AM LOOKING FOR HELP, not condescension. Don't bother writing back, I'll find my answers elsewhere. -Rob Vaughan you wrote- >>Do it with a script, exactly the same way you'd do it yourself. >>If you don't know whow to do it yourself... then "finding out" is step 1!
