hamelekim Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I am currently trying to import data from filemaker 5 to 8. I got the files from the company off their server. When I try to import them after I copy them to my hdd I get this error. "either the host is not available, or the file is not available on that host." it is almost like it is treating the file as a link to the real file, but it is the real file. One of the files is 1.3Mb in size. I also get an error when I try to open up any of the database files on their own. "The operation could not be completed" "An unexpected error occured(error code - 10660)" It's almost like there are some hidden permission on the file so that you can only access it through their network, I can access it fine through remote desktop.
Breezer Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 unfortunately you cannot import "natively" from FM5 to FM8. You will need to export from FM5 to a text file then import the data into FM8. Alternatively, the long way, you can export the data as FM5 then open the exported file from FM8. FM8 will prompt you to convert the file. Once converted, then you can do whatever...
hamelekim Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 Actually all the files have .fp7 at the end of them. I think they were converted from 5 to 7, and now I want to put them into 8. But I get an error when I try to open them in 7. "filemaker cannot share a file because filemaker network sharing is turned off" I didn't realize that in order to open a file locally you need to have network sharing turned on.
Lee Smith Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Version 8 uses the extension of .fp7 What error message are you getting? Lee
