Hi,

I don't need any specific help, just some help as to where I should be looking. I am confused by all the terminology out here.

OK, I have a database working very nicely indeed on my Mac. It's on horse racing in the US. Course, number of runners, betfair odds, results, etc, etc. About 140,000 races logged so its fairly sizeable.

I want a web page that people can load up, select a few options (i.e. favourite horse in every 7 runner race at Arlington) and get a page back that will list number of races and the profit/loss returned if you'd backed them all. So it would have to return some actual calculations.

I'm not running a server at home - this will be uploaded to some webspace somewhere.

I thought I'd done the hard bit already :

Where should I go from here?

Thanks very much

Welcome to the Forums.

You've got choices on how to do this, and your best bet is to go with a FileMaker-specific hosting company to put your FMP files on the web. A lot of people use Adatasol or Point In Space, both of which advertise here on the Forums.

Using Instant Web Publishing (IWP), which is built-in on FileMaker, your database is served up in a format which is readable to a web browser. Setting it up with a hosting company is the easy part. What you need to do is make sure that your file is web-ready, and that can get a bit tricky if you've never done it before. Some script steps won't work, layouts may look a bit different, etc., and you also want to make sure that users get taken to the right layout, that their search results are returned correctly, etc...

This is actually something I do for my clients, and if you'd like (or if you run into trouble) I can have a look at your file and give you some pointers, or clear up any problems.

There's a short technical brief on the FMI website regarding IWP, which can be found here:
