Kevin Cheesman Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I have added fields to use on a layout in list view. I have played around with the positioning and now have a few fields which are slightly taller than others. It is not easy to adjust the heights of all the fields accurately. When I used Microsoft Access, there was a tool to resize the field if you changed the font size etc. I can't find out how to do this in FileMaker. Any ideas?
Kent Searight Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I rely heavily on the "Object Size" pallette for this sort of thing. It's available under View > Object Size in the menu bar while in Layout Mode. One thing I like to do before using it is to click on the unit of measure, which default opens in inches (in), and change that to pixels(px). Anyway, if you click on any layout object you'll see size and positioning in the pallette. Use those numbers to resize and/or reposition your other layout objects. Your other option is to move up to FM8 which has the capability to resize all selected objects to the x or y dimension of the smallest or largest of the selected objects. This is a significantly faster approach than the way I described in the first paragraph, especially when you have a lot of objects to resize. Hope this helps!
Kevin Cheesman Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Thanks for that. I can see me getting version 8 soon. Kevin
Lee Smith Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Get the Advance Edition when you do. FMI has (had) a special offer for the move from v7 that was pretty reasonable. The difference of what you get is really worth the cost. Lee
Kevin Cheesman Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Yes, now I've had a look, I'll probably get the advanced version. I've been used to Microsoft Access. So far, I'm very impressed with FileMaker. Kevin
Kent Searight Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 You'll be way ahead of the game overall if you choose FileMaker over Access, in my opinion. Also, as Lee mentioned, the Advance version of FMP8 would be to your benefit if you're going to be doing any developing. For more info on FileMaker vs. Access go to this link.
