I am trying to add a checkbox to a layout. I have defined a value list and formatted the field as checkbox set and included the value list. When I enter the browse mode the field is there but not as a checkbox. To make sure I did it properly I created a new file and duplicated the procedure above and it worked fine. It will not work in my file. Any sugesstions?

Border and fill will be of no help here. The checkbox is handled by PEN tools alone.

Specifically, right-click on your checkbox field, select Pen Pattern and make sure it is the top box, second from the left (opaque). The top far-left box is transparent pen. If that doesn't do the trick, make sure your pen width isnt' set to NONE and your pen color is dark enough to see. :wink2:

Thank you very much. The pen width was set to none

and when I changed it everything worked. I was just wondering why the setting changes from one file to another?

Thanks again

LaRetta, you have saved the day. I have been having the same problem and trying to solve it for at least the last two weeks. Did an internet search and found this site with the answer to my dilemma posted. Thank you...thank you...thank you!!!

If you want to establish a default pen, fill, border, font etc you must do so with no objects selected. It is mentioned in Help (search for setting color, pattern...) but is not real obvious. In your real file, you must have (at one time or another) set the properties without an item selected, so it STUCK.

So if you display your status area, you can specify your fill, pen and other default controls there. Then the next time you create an object, it will follow your guidelines.

I'm pleased it helped you, Sharon. Welcome to FM forums! :wink2:
