Does anybody know of a plug-in or workaround to add Tool Tip Formatting to Filemaker Pro 8?

Nothing that works right. Buy Filemaker 8 Advanced...its the only practical solution. The one plugin does not work well, and is more trouble than its worth.

$299 is a pretty steep upgrade for just that one feature though... is there anything else that Advanced does that I can't live without?

The plugin has to be $299 or close. The plugin won't work beyond row 1 of a portal, and is a real pain.

Loads of stuff in 8 Advanced: Tab Control Widget allows easy tab layouts (not perfect, but a whole lot better than nothing); Custom Functions, Text Formatting calculations, PDF creation (but not in a runtime), direct Excel creation, developer designed user menus; a debugger that shows field values in real time, and more.

I upgraded from 6 to 7 and never used 7 (yawn), but 8 Advanced is great.

Custom functions are huge. You can eliminate a lot of redundant effort by using custom functions.
