Hellmut Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Again, I am familiar with Access and new to FileMaker. In Access, I would want to make a Form, and add it as a Sub-form to another form and do it iteratively. So for example I could create a form where I could enter a country, a sub-form to enter counties in that country, which would have a sub-form for the towns in that county. I know that FileMaker uses portals, but don't see how I could create a portal, from another layout (which would allow me to do as I've described above).
SteveB Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 You can't have a portal within a portal. That said, it sounds like you want to create a conditional value list. A Conditional Valuelist narrows down the choices available for selection based on a previous choice: Select 'Great Britain' from a list of countries, and the available Cities would narrow to only those in G.B. In Filemaker land, forms are layouts. You'll need to describe what you want to do in more detail if conditional valuelists are not what you're after. Steve
Hellmut Posted March 1, 2006 Author Posted March 1, 2006 I would like to track where individuals live throughout their life. I would like to order data according to country, county, and town and track those locations by beginning and end dates. I do have lists of counties in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England. As the project expands, I will have to add other countries.
