Newbies orbiter Posted March 5, 2006 Newbies Posted March 5, 2006 I'm running Mac OSX and Filemaker 7 Server. I have a LAN with 4 computers attached. I have successfully gotten a FMP7 network up and running and all works well. My question is, how can I access the database files from another location such as my work? Can I "open remote file" from my work location? If so, how does FMP7 know how to find the data base...through the IP? If you can help, that would be fantastic. Thanks, Orbiter
Razumovsky Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Yes, shouldn't be aproblem if the host has a static ip and you have access through the firewall (if any). Use the network filepath box in the open remote screen with the syntax fmnet:/hostIPAddress/filename.fp7 or add the host machine as a 'favorite host'. -Raz
Wim Decorte Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 HostIPaddress would typically be the static public IP address or your firewall/router, not the internal LAN IP address of your FMS machine at work. All you need to do then is open port 5003 (the FM data port) on your firewall and forward all traffic on the firewall/router for that port to your FMS machine.
