cwgben
Maybe this is a stupid question. But somehow I cannot figure this out.I have a xml file exported from filemaker 8 having just 2 fields ,Model code & qty.I need to import this in to filemaker database from the web.The idea is that our clients in other countries using Filemaker allways have the latest data.Or is there a easier way to do this? Help appreciated. Thanks a million in advance.

Fenton
I kind of wonder what the problem is. If you run Import, xml data, then put the above url in the http box, you can import the data directly into a FileMaker file. There are 5 fields however, not 2, and they've only got generic names. I don't see how you exported from named fields and ended up with f1, f2, etc.. Export from named fields, so you/they can line up the fields in the Import order. If you're mostly updating data, then you/they'd want to use the Import "Matching records" option, on a unique ID field, with the "Add new records" option. cwgben
@ Fenton Thank you very much for your reply.I have tried doing the above, Infact now I have changed the file with named fields but i am still geting the error below XML parsing error: An exception occured! Type:NetAccessorException, Message:Could not connect to the socket for URL '{0}' Error=1 Line Number: 0 Column Number: 0 I have a active internet conection.I just cant see why I cant import this data into filemaker from the web. However I can import the same file if i have it on my local machine. Fenton
Are you trying to use an xsl stylesheet? That is the error I get when I it either can't find the xsl file; or if the xml file is an http file, and the xsl file is local (which perhaps should work, but doesn't; I don't know enough {anything} about the network dynamics to say). But I just entered the URL you posted above into the HTTP Request box, in the Import XML Data Source dialog, and it brought up the Import field-matching dialog; ie., it worked. It works with Open also. It was very fast. The file is an FileMaker XML export. It already is in the required format and structure; you don't need an xsl stylesheet. You are choosing XML import? cwgben
Thank you once again sir for yor reply. No I am not using xsl stylesheet.Like you said I just enter the URL http://www.geocities.com/goaben/ck.xml into the HTTP Request box.I tried the Open also but it gives the same message. Thanks a million for trying it out.Now I think it must be the network or firewall or something.I need to figure it out. Thanks again. Fenton
Yes, I suspect the firewall also. But I'm no expert at that. I have ports 80 and Filemaker's 5003 open.
cwgben
I finally figured it out.In the Middle east we have to go through a proxy.Though I can set the proxy server in the Internet explorer.I dont see a way to set it in Filemaker.Does anybody know how to do this? Thanks in Advance.
