How do i hide a field (from veiw) from a record but still maintain its function

There are a number of ways

You could make it very small, you could hide it behind something, you could set it's qualities to being transparent with no borders and transparent text or you could just delete it from the layout but it might be best if you explain which 'function' you need to keep

You could also hide it inside a 1 row invisible portal that is controlled by a relationship.

Unless there is some reason why it needs to be on the layout, just remove it from the layout. It will still work on other layouts, with calculations, in scripts, etc. If you provide more information about why you want to hide the field, maybe we can provide a better answer.
