nutso
I'm trying to import a text file that contains commas and double quotes. When I do the import Filemaker removes all of the double quotes and the chops off all of the data after a comma. I know what its doing it, because quotes are text qualifiers and commas are separators. I tried replacing the commas and quotes with escape characters " and ,. That didn't work either. What should I do?
Lee Smith
If you have control of the text file, try changing the file to tab-separated file, and see how that imports. Lee
nutso
I changed the extension from .txt to .tab and it seems to work. Sometimes it the small things. Thanks!!
Lee Smith
Wow, I didn't know that would work with .tab, I knew that you can do this with cvs the other way. However, that wasn't quite what I meant, so be careful with the results. I meant that you should go back to the source application (i.e. Excel, FileMaker, etc., and save the file as a text tab-separated file. If you don't have access to the original application, then let us know. HTH Lee
