I am not that well up on validation but I had a quick look at your file. Could it be because you had the validation operating only on data entry and not at all times?

I tried all option combinations with no results.

I think it has to do with the fact that the value of Daily Total is not updated until you commit the record. Therefore, the validation calculation is valid until the next modification.

Try making your validation calculation: Daily Total + Fees < 300.

This will produce the validation error message when the record is committed.
