mgm75 Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I want to schedule my FM server 8 to backup to another computer over the network. Everytime I put in the network path it won't validate. I have tried making a mapped drive and thatr didn't work. Any suggetions?
Ted S Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Yo, This topic has come up at least a few times in the past year. I'm not 100% sure of the answer but I think the consensus is that you cannot backup to a network path. I think the workaround is to backup to a local drive and then schedule those copies to be moved to the network drive via the OS (i.e. copy *.*). Do a search and I'm pretty certain that you will find the definitive answer.
Wim Decorte Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 No, you actually can backup to a network volume, it's just not very smart. If the remote volume is not available you won't have a backup. When you backup to the local hard disk and then move a zipped copy across the network you will at the very least always have the local backup. Also, using the local hard disk is a lot faster. Moving a zipped copy across the network is a lot better for performance. Check out the "Backups! More Backups!" white paper on www.connectingdata.com
