Jalz Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Hi Guys, Almost finished creating a solution, and my computer crashed just before I quit. Ive opened teh files and they didn't seem like they were damaged in anyway (I'm assuming this as FileMaker didn't show any recovery dialog boxes whilst opening the file) Any of you guys know of a utility that will allow me to check how many times my database has crashed? Im using FMP8 Advanced, and i'm surprised this feature hasnt been built into this developer app.
SteveB Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 A lot of things should be built into Advanced that isn't there. I don't believe there is anything that will do what you're after. That said, FM8 is much more robust than previous versions, and files don't require recovery very often. Don't worry, be happy Steve
Genx Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Just be careful with whatever layout you were last modifying (if any). I've had a crash before when i was modifying a layout, the layout was corrupt (every time i tried to make a change go back in the browse mode from that particular layout) so i just duped it, deleted it and changed the references to the duped one - no problems since. If you weren't really doing anything at the time relating to restructuring the database .. as Steve says, it's all good. ~Genx
Tricky Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 There is metadata magic (New Millenium) and Brushfire. I believe the last one shows how many times a files has been improperly closed. Unfortunately it does not enable you to find out if and what might be damaged. You can never tell and I agree that this is an omission by Filemaker: they should include tools like that for developers.
Jalz Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks Guys, I think it maybe a plugin that seems to cause the crash. Im sure there was a utility that I downloaded many years ago (.fp5 time), which showed you this.... just wish I could remember the name. Metadata Magic seems to be only for .fp5 files (from my brief look on the nmci site), but thankyou for your suggestions advice all.
