Wierd Finding Issue

Featured Replies

I have a script that finds certain records based on 2 criteria.

The file is working well but recently something wierd has happened.

When I use the find script on my computer it works, but when it's used on other computers it does not recognize one of the criteria.

So why would it work right on my machine but not on the others.

The file is housed on a server.

Thanks

We would need more info to answer that. It does sound weird, I agree. Is it possible that users on the other computers log in with a password that has less privileges? Did you check that the other computers have the exact same version of Filemaker installed? Just guessing...

OK. I have narrowed the problem down.

The fields I am having issues with are fields that are pulling information from another database. The fields are set up as calculations.

The issue is defintely a server issue because I can pull the info from my desktop but can't pull via the network.

Any thoughts?

I suggest you post your files here, because it is not that simple to solve if we do not see the situation. In my humble opinion this cannot be a server issue, because it works on your computer. Or, dumb remark: is it possible that the files the data is drawn from is NOT present on server, but IS present on your local hard disk?

You say that the list does not see the data. What happens? Is it simply empty? Or do you get an error?

Wasn't this answered only the other day by Vaughan another post? I believe the suggestion was to make sure both your server and clients were updated to the most recent version.

Like I said. I am running FM Pro Advanced and everyone else is running FM Pro 8.0.

That shouldn't be a problem...correct?

Either way it is causing issues finding.

Thanks

a) you didn't specify that you were running filemaker 8 - :) there are issues that relate specifically to finding records in the earlier versions of fm 8 - specifically over unstored calculation fields (not sure if they were applicable to advanced - or you may just have updated) - point is, there is a version 8.0v3, your clients should all be on it.

Genx is 100% right.

If you have 8.0 v.1 or v.2 and run them on a server you HAVE to run v.3 or you will run into similar problems if multiple users are involved. This is the only way to solve the issue I described.

Thanks for the heads up.
