July 10, 200619 yr This page http://www.filemaker.com/products/fmp/universal_app.html claims that Server 8.0v4 is now Universal, but the downloads page lists only a PowerPC version. Typo, or is a Universal 8.0v4 version forthcoming?
July 10, 200619 yr Nope, that's the FMP (Pro) page you're looking at. FM Server is not Universal yet. There is also no FileMaker Server 8.5, just a new rev to the existing FMS 8.0
July 10, 200619 yr The Universal version must be ordered separately from the FileMaker store. From FMI: ------- FileMaker Server 8 and FileMaker Server 8 Advanced can get Universal CDs that support Intel-based Macs for only $49. These CDs are available for purchase on the FileMaker online web store or by calling FileMaker customer service. Users running FileMaker Server 8 and FileMaker Server 8 Advanced on the Windows or PowerPC-based Mac computers, can download the FileMaker Server 8.0v4 and FileMaker Server 8.0v4 Advanced compatibility updates from the FileMaker web site. These free compatibility updates address certain known issues in FileMaker Server 8 and do not include support for Intel-based Mac computers. Visit http://www.filemaker.com/support/downloads/index.html for more information. -------- Steven
July 10, 200619 yr Author Wm Decorte actually, the page I reference does say universal FMS 8.0v4 (at the very bottom). Re: $49 CD. It turns out that if you are on a VLA / Maintenance contract, you can download it right away for "free". I just got the email telling me so.
July 12, 200619 yr It looks like as of this morning you can purchase and download server upgrades. (Last week you could not and now I understand why no resellers had them in stock.) I just purchased the FMS8A upgrade and hopefully I will receive my download link momentarily.
July 13, 200619 yr OK just some clarification here. The update on public downloads page is the PPC ipdater for Server 8.0v4. For intel Mac, you must purchase the $ 49 CD version. People on license maintenance will get this I believe. Contact your FMI Sales Rep at 800-725-2747 if you are a VLA customer. Otherwise contact Customer Service at 800-325-2747. This is for US customers. Others contact local country FMI Sales or go to the FMI web site for your country. Steven
July 18, 200619 yr Hi there, Can anyone confirm whether this new update to FMSA takes care of the custom web publishing problems that occur on on Intel hardware through version 8.0v3? Thanks!
July 18, 200619 yr Sure, Previous versions of FM8 SA cause OS X web services to hang on startup (of web services, not system boot). It requires removing the lines FM puts in httpd.conf to fix. I can find some links to more thorough descriptions if you need.
July 19, 200619 yr Well this new version--8.0v4--is the first designed to run on OS X Intel Macs. So if there were issues before, I would not be surprised. Or are you saying that the "hanging" was present on Power PC versions as well. Steven
