Jon Crain Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 (edited) Does anyone have an ultra-large database that could be used for Server benchmarking? We are trying to test a Dual G4 vs. Dual G5 vs. Intel iMac to see how it handles large files. jon Edited July 19, 2006 by Guest
Ocean West Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 http://www.briandunning.com/sample-data/ hope that helps... You could import it multiple times.
Jon Crain Posted July 20, 2006 Author Posted July 20, 2006 Very cool. Here's the database I created to test with if anybody would like it. Once you import the records from the site above, just run first script which will go to each record and combine the first and last name and then give you the total time it took it at the end. Have fun! jon Benchmark.zip
John May - Point In Space Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Do you have any results to share from your tests, out of curiosity? Thanks! - John
Jon Crain Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 So far we've noticed that if you're simply hosting the shared database on the server, the server doesn't seem to make a difference to the speed of calculations, the machine you are using to access the database is. We haven't tested web versions yet where the calculations will be truly made on the server. The two servers are a Dual 1.25 G4 and a Intel Mac Mini Dual Core. I'll try and keep things updated. jon
