Newbies rsharwood Posted March 10, 2002 Newbies Posted March 10, 2002 I was at a client's home today and they are using a FM 5.0x database system. It appears if the user changes the name of their hard drive, the log-in states that it is not allowed from that computer. First of all; How is this done? Can this be done for the "Computer Owner's" Name in the File sharing Control Panel Secondly; This appears to be dangerous as many people like to rename their HDDs. Any work arounds? Cheers, Rob
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 "Log on" to what and from where? Are the users going via File-->Open-->Hosts? Is FIleMAker Server is use and if so, what version and what OS? All these elements influence the likely answers to your questions. Old Advance Man
Kurt Knippel Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 Turn off Filesharing. Then you should be able to rename the HDD.
Newbies rsharwood Posted March 10, 2002 Author Newbies Posted March 10, 2002 The Mac OS is 9.x. And yes, the other computer logs on by using the "Hosts" button. Let me see if I can clarify all this. The database is hosted by one Mcc running Mac OS 9.2. The other Mac (OS 9.1) attempts to log on, if the HDD is named anything other than "Cath's HD" the screen says login is not allowed from that computer. If anyone needs clarification, please ask... Rob
danjacoby Posted March 11, 2002 Posted March 11, 2002 Sounds more like a file sharing problem than a FMP problem.
