step wright Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I am sure I have read it somewhere.... I know it is possible for more than one filemaker 8 server to publish the same files. However, is it also possible to have these servers share the same address? I am talking about multiple servers in a load balancing kind of way.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Well multiple copies of FileMaker Server can publish multiple copies of the same file. That is, each server has its own set of files. Multiple Servers cannot however publish the same single set of files. You may be thinking of the old FileMaker Pro Unlimited and its RAIC configuration. But that is EOL and no longer supported. Multiple FileMaker Server installations can be synchronized through the use of SyncDek, a product of FSA Partner Member WorldSync of Berkeley, CA. But that is somewhat different than the scenario you describe. What is it exactly that you're trying to do? Steven
step wright Posted July 21, 2006 Author Posted July 21, 2006 Thanks for your reply, the main concern is that if one server decides to die there is a secondary server available. Secondly, if one server is being overloaded with demand, connections could be switched to the secondary server. I suppose it is not too much of an issue to have two servers accessing the same databases. Users can choose between which server connection they use, or only use the secondary one if the first goes down. Once again, thanks for your reply. Steve
Steven H. Blackwell Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I guess I was not clear. So, once more: [color:red] Well multiple copies of FileMaker Server can publish multiple copies of the same file. That is, each server has its own set of files. Multiple Servers cannot however publish the same single set of files. Steven
Arin Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Does anyone have any experiences using SyncDek that they can share? Does it work well? How frequently do you Sync?
