I have been looking at the filemaker template file resourse scheduling and managed to get the buttoms working through scripts. Now I only have to figure out how to make the information appear in the portal.

Looking at the template a few things don't make sense to me:

In the new project layout the fields you fill in are from "current table::) Calendar" although the layout is called "new project"

The portal in Resourse scheduling is showing the related records from Project Resourse ID? Nowhere in the define database can i find Project Resourse ID as a field nor is it as a layout. Although it is in the relationship window. What is this Project Resourse ID? And why does the portal show records from Project Resourse ID instead of Calendar where you fill in the info.

Thanks.

Hi Frida

Congratulations on your progress with picking that file to pieces.

Once again I do not have that file to hand but I think I might be able to point you in the right direction this time

You say that the layout is called one thing yet it uses fields from somewhere else. That is the way it should be.

The layout name is just that - a layout name.

The place where you get your fields from is a different thing entirely. That is called a table.

Have a look under define database > tables and you will find a table called Calendar. This table will have fields and these are the fields that the layout 'new project' has been elected to show.

Now your second question - about the portal.

Portals are structured to show records from a table also but they are structured to show only related record.

More specifically portals show records from an occurence of a table in the relationship window.

Even more specifically portals only show those records that meet the criteria of the relationship that is attached to that table occurence.

In the relationship window you will find a table occurence called project resourse ID. Click on the link between that and the table occurence called Calender and you should see the criteria for which records in project resource ID will be shown in that portal

Hope that helps (and I hope it is right) :)

Just a note to Phil, it's the templates you are exposed to if you in Filemaker Preference turns on "Show templates in New Database dialog box"

I am also working on a scheduling solution for opur firm. I need a scheduling calendar for assigning employee project tasks. I want items from my budget table to appear on the schedule as assignments in the calendar. Have you attempted to do anything like this?
