Conditional Page Breaks?

...or something?

I am new to Filemaker and these forums. I'm using FM Pro 8.0v3.

I've got a layout issue I'm finding I need help with. It's a report which is sorted by a company division, then a person, then resources under a person's area of expertise, logically similar to the following:

Division I

---->Person A

--------->Resource 1

--------->Resource 2

--------->Resource 3

---->Person B

--------->Resource 1

--------->Resource 2

Division II

---->Person C

--------->Resource 1

--------->Resource 2

---->Person D

--------->Resource 1

--------->Resource 2

--------->Resource 3

In any given reporting period, the number of resources managed by a particular person can change, so I cannot simply count occurences and break on those.

What I need to be able to do is prevent page-breaks from happening in the middle of a person's listing. Put a better way, a page break should ONLY be able to happen under the last resource of a given person. Next Division / person rows should always break to the following page, IF the current page cannot handle a person's FULL set of resource rows.

Anyway, without getting too nitty gritty here, I'm just wondering of there's any way to programatically insert page breaks into report layouts or anything like that so I can manage the output myself.

Thx in advance for any advice.

I have the same issue/question.

Within the sub-summary part definition, the checkbox for "Allow part to break across page boundaries" is unselected. (Using the example in previous message in this post, that would be the "Person" Sub-summary.) I had expected that this would keep together all the "Resources", but it doesn't do this--page breaks are occurring between "Resources" within the same "person".

I made sure that the next highest sub-summary part ("Division" in above example) was checked for "Allow part to break across page boundaries", but this did not solve the problem.

By the way, I am not using Merge Fields, but I don't think that is the cause of this problem.

Is there any way to prevent the breaks? I do not want to force a page break before each "Person".

Thanks,

Marek

I am having the same problem I have never been able to get this to work either.

Subsummary-Item Category (1 line)

Body-Item Parts (Many lines)

Sub Summary-Item Subtotal(1 line)

since the Body section varies from Item to item how on earth are you suppose to prevent the layout from crossing pages, see uploaded file, this is page 2 of a report at the top you can see the subtotal did not fit on page 1, and was bumped to page 2.

Very annoying!
