Larry Goldman Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 I'm upgrading from FMP7 to 8.5 to take advantage of new features. I can transfer data from old to new files easily enough with the Import function. But is there a way to transfer the Accounts and Privileges (along with current passwords) from the old to my new file? I don't want to know the passwords and I don't want to require all users to re-enter theirs... Thanks, Larry Goldman
Pupiweb Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Hi Larry You can't import accounts and privilege sets But why do you want to do that ? A Filemaker 7 file can be opened by FM 8-8.5 so you'll find whatever you've done before untouched ... Ciao G. Pupita
Steven H. Blackwell Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 As noted, in moving from FMP 7 to FMP 8.5 there is no file format change and you can just open the files. However, you can move Privilege Sets from file to file using FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced (or FileMaker Pro 8 Advanced or FileMaker 7 Developer) and the FM Robot Tool from New Millennium. http://www.newmillennium.com You can also recreate Accounts from one file in another one, if you know the Account Names and the Privilege Sets to which they are linked. This is done by adroit use of the Account Management script steps. However you cannot move passwords associated with internally authenticated Accounts, because passwords are not stored in the file.
