Newbies mspletter Posted August 18, 2006 Newbies Posted August 18, 2006 I have a database where I can identify particular categories of records based on an entry in a text field and an entry in a value list. I would like to sort the database first by the text field, then by which particlar value is selected in the value list. I would then like FileMaker to display a summary of a separate value list with 50 possible choices, and tell how many of the records have each of the 50 possible choices selected after sorting. Is this possible and any suggestions on how to do it (particularly the summary of a value list field across multiple records showing how many records have each box in the value list selected)? Thanks much!
CoZiMan Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 I'll chime in first and say that I think you can do this. But I need a little more clarification. The first value list is a pull down or pop-up? The second value list is displaying as a checkbox set? This means the value in the field may have multiple entries. You allude to this in your post but just seeking clarification. You also don't state wether you want the summaries sorted in a different manner than the entries. Thanx

CoZiMan Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Got the first part working for the basic listing in a sample file (borrowing form several other example files and authors on this forum). Now comes the summaries (sorting after authors reply . . . .
Newbies mspletter Posted August 21, 2006 Author Newbies Posted August 21, 2006 Thanks for the reply. So a bit more description: the database is basically scoring data for the research that I do. I have a text field where I write the name of the sample. The first value list is a checkbox field with 6 choices that classifies the sample into 1 of 6 categories. The second value list is a checkbox field with 50 choices that is my actual data (I look at brains with 50 different regions and mark which regions the cells I look at are located in, which can be one or many of the 50 regions). Right now all of my data is in one database, so I would like to sort out a subset of records based on sample and the first value field of categories. Once this is done, I would like to summarize the second value field and count how many have which of the 50 boxes selected. For example, if I sorted out 35 samples in category 1, out of those 35, which percent have box 1 in value field 2 selected, which percent have box 2 selected, etc.
