Newbies Remi751 Posted August 30, 2006 Newbies Posted August 30, 2006 I have a client - a museum - who has a text field in one of the files of the FMP6 solution I made for him over the years (100 files 20 users FMS55 WinXP), in which he made 'enrichments' by hand (bold, color, underline, etc.) on thousands of records (without telling me...). He wants now to make a book out of these records. So he asked me 1) to export in Word while keeping the enrichments this I think I found a way in making him buy FM8, move his file into FM8, going through the records, then exporting as html, renaming it .doc. It will be done a few times but not every day. 2) to allow creation and withdrawal of 'Notes' like in Word. This has to be done every day so it can't be in FM8. For this he accepted to have another FMP file called Notes with the records made with the text number and the note itself, shown in a portal next to his text field, but not 'callable' from the text itself. As each text of a given record has a maximum of 2 pages, then 20 notes as max, then it looks OK. I can insert a special set of characters - say |99 - where the cursor is. But I can't, for the life of me, renumber those 20 notes back in the main formatted text. The reason is that I need to use copy-paste to keep formats, while cutting into pieces the original text (this I don't know how to do : if I knew, the problem would be solved) and reconstructing the whole text from those pieces. Could you help me ? I would be eternally grateful. Any idea is welcome. Remi-Noel Menegaux ([email protected])
Stuart Taylor Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Your post is really confusing ... can you just write it simply then i may be able to help. Seems like the last bit is all you need help on but it seems as if you are unable to copy and paste ... which is obviously not your problem. Could you not write: • I have some formatted text in field "a" • I need to get it to document "b" in this format • I am trying this method but it does not work • To do this i am using filemaker 6/7/8/8.5 on 2000/XP/OS X best stuart
Newbies Remi751 Posted September 10, 2006 Author Newbies Posted September 10, 2006 Sorry for not being clear. I try again : - I have some formatted text in field "a" - I need to get a delimited part of "a" to be put in a field "b" while keeping the initial formats that were there in that part of "a" - I need to stay in filemaker 6 on XP Thanks again for any help. Stuart Taylor Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I know no way that this could be done in 6 ... 7 yes ... 6 no.
Lee Smith Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Version 6 removes any formatting in its calculations. Could you format the new field in layout mode, or use one of the Functions in your calculation that you would be using to parse out the data. (I.e. in layout mode, apply the styles you want), or use one of them available in the Text Functions. HTH Lee
