AJT Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Hello All! I have a portal loacted on one of my files. This file is called "Addressbook" The Portal is supposed to be gettings it's information from the table in the file "ToDo" I have created a link going through the "Task" field joining up the two tables. Everything works fine when i click on the portal to add a new reccord. BUT, i don't want to do this. I wan't to go into the file "ToDo" and create a new reccord. But, when i do this, it does not appear on the Portal. How can i get it so that it will display all of the reccords found on that table? Thanks.
Genx Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 This doesn't sound right... Oh well: 1) Check your relationship is correct (if task is something that can be changes, i highly don't recommend you use it as your primary key). 2) Make sure that you are copying your primary key when you go to the file "ToDo" -- insert this into your complimenting relationship field (i.e. the one that is relating to your tasks table)..this makes your ToDo record actually relate in some way to your task record (this can be done through a script). If this isnt useful, please give us some more info
AJT Posted August 30, 2006 Author Posted August 30, 2006 Sorry, but i still cannot get it to work! Please can you go through the steps as if you were telling someone who has never used FM before. -------------------------------------------- Basically... I have 2 files. "ToDo" - 4 fields (TaskID, Task, Date, Urgency) "Start" - 0 Fields -------------------------------------------- Please can someone describe how i would go about creating a portal in "Start" that will show EVERY SINGLE reccord in the table "ToDo" I can do a lot in FileMaker, this is just the first time that i have needed to make a portal, and i cannot get it to work. As i said, i can do it if i type straight into the portal, but it does not get it's information from the other database. -- So, i will start from scratch. If someone could direct me i would appreciate it.
Genx Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Go into define database (the relationships window). Then drag any relationship between the two table occurances. Double click on the newly formed relationship click the relationship and choose "X" for the operand linking. This will display ALL records
AJT Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 i still cannot get it to work. Basically i want a portal that will display ALL the reccords in another database. I want them displayed in one loaction, so i can look at the portal, and without having to click anything, it displayes a list of all the reccords in that database. I am trying to create a database that contains a list of "things to do" each thing has it's own reccord. and i want to display the entire list on another of my database. It just will not do it.
AJT Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 I got it Thank's for all your help - I didn't understand what you meant, but i get it now!
