Doubt this is possible, but...

I have two fields, "forename" and "surname". They sit beside each other on my layout like so:

FORENAME[color:white]....SURNAME

Sometimes a guy might have a very short forename, so I end up with this unsightly mess:

ANDY[color:white]............SHAW

Is there any way to make this look more like:

ANDY SHAW

...without having to resort to using a third field to display the combined values?

If you don't need to edit these fields on this particular layout, you can do this with text;

enter layout mode and type this

HI Frosty

Just to expand a little on the above answer it uses what are known as merge fields which are fields that cannot be edited but can be viewed. They will always trim any trailing spaces and are therefore useful for merging seamlessly into a text block.

They can be inserted by using the insert menu or ctrl-m on the keyboard
