I am running Server 8 and FMP 8.5 on the client machines. I recently copied and moved a file onto my laptop to update it. I've made the changes, changed the name slightly (through a "save as") and cut and pasted it back into the database folder under server. After several hours of trial and error, I've finally realized that I can have either the original version of the file, or the new one show up in the remote list, but not both at once. I figured this out through Server Adminstration, and going to the Datbase Node and closing one, which allows the other to open.

So, what I really need is for both to run at once. With earlier versions I could save the background DBF file as something new to avoid this sort of problem, but I can't seem to resolve it here.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

What happens if you close a different file?

Double check the FileMaker server settings.

It could simply be that the maximum number of files to host is set to low.

Let's assume for the minute that there are no external file references involved with these files. If there are, you'll run into some issues.

The idea to check the number of files allowed to be hosted is a good one. However, if you copied the file while it was hosted, then you've got a possible damaged file.
