Hello,

Ok so the webviewer is great and i now find myself wanting to use web data everywhere, but its time to be honest to myself and say that if i want to pull in currency data the best way to do it is with XML and not the webviewer.

Problem is i can't get my head around it.

I want to import xml data from a bank feed and the European Bank seems the logical choice and yes the FM website has an example ... but its great and useless all at the same time because even though you can get the data you can't change the comma and make fm read the data as a number.

So next best thing is the Canadian Bank who have a feed ... but i really dont know where to begin.

I have a currency database:

gISO Code of local currency (whatever that is EUR, GBP, USD)

ISO Code

ISO Number

Currency Name

Currency Sign

Decimal Places

&

A currency rates database

Date

ISO Code

Rate

The calculations are all correct i "just" need help parsing the data ... or help to learn the schema and how to querie a range.

anything will be useful to get me on the right track.

best

Stuart

I am new here but I may be on a parallel path. I am not familiar with web viewer so I do not know anything there.

It sounds like you need to get the xml file/feed first. I seem to remember reading something about ISO codes and numbers, and country codes for currency in some xml xsl reading I have doing. If I remember right they have standards for this in xml on how it is transmitted.

"you can get the data you can't change the comma and make fm read the data as a number."

I thought you could. TYPE="TEXT", TYPE="NUMBER" when setting up categories.

Joe

Or you could just import it as Text, then use Text Functions to Substitute and get what you want as a Number result.

Funny reading down the recent posts someone else has mentioned the webex seminars ... thank you filemaker and its FSA partners (some of which im sure are administrators/members here) for delivering this resource.

Really makes me want to study for my certificate... so must be good for business to give a webex seminar.

hope this is useful
