Prompt Boxes for field input

Featured Replies

I am curious if anyone knows how to alter the "Custom Dialog" script step (or create something else) so that instead of having to enter a value manually, I can have the user check yes/no with a radio box, or select from a list of values. The goal is that when a record is created, a script will run, so that there are certain fields that they must define in order to create the record.

If this isn't the right part of the forums for this, let me know and i'll go to the appropriate portal.

Thanks!

The question is not related to custom functions, but I'll answer anyway:

No, you cannot use FileMaker's Custom Dialog script step for dialogs with radio buttons, checkboxes, or lists. You can either:

- Design a layout to emulate the look of a dialog box; or

- Use a plugin such as Troi Dialog.

The plugin gives you a true modal dialog, however you can get pretty close with a layout and script that sizes the window, hides/locks the status area and puts the script in Pause. And you then get full control over the appearance and can do stuff dialog plugins can't do, like use FileMaker's popup calendar control for date fields.

That's exactly what I needed to know! Thanks.
