Nagasaki Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Is it possible to move a field to another table after its been created and assigned to a certain table? The reason I'm asking is because when I made the current database I'm using, I just put every field in one table, and now I'm wondering if it would have been more prudent to divide my fields into several tables. (Right now I have like 85 fields in one main table).
Søren Dyhr Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 You're right some kind of normalizations measures should have happened along the proceedings. But what you ask for is not part of the regular version of filemaker but the developer/advanced ...so the sad message is if you can't lay your hand on one of these, are you bound to do it the tiresom way - because the reasoning is correct, usually are 75 fields in one table a sign of a poor relatioal structure. --sd
SteveB Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 As Soren says, there is no way to automatically move a field(s) between tables. However, the issue is not the number of fields, which at 85 is not unusually large, but the relationships of the fields in that table. Are they related or unrelated? Without knowing what you're really storing there is no way to comment. Steve
