layout that won't print

Featured Replies

I have a FileMaker 8 database with multiple layouts. All but one of the layouts will print to a given printer. Why won't that one layout print? The font is the same. Any ideas? It's an HP printer.

Can you give us a little more information about what happens when you try to print? Do you get an error message? Are you trying to print manually or with a script? Are you saying that the layout in question will print to other printers, just not the HP printer?

Thank you for your response. It is a manual print job (not initiated by a script), and other printers will print the layout, just not that one printer. I forwarded your questions to some other users in the office for them to reply to me so I can give you a more thorough answer very soon. thanks,

Jonathan

Make sure you are using FileMaker 8.0v3. The updater is free from the filemaker.com web site.

Regardless of whether there is an error or not, it is likely a single object causing the problem. Duplicate the layout and remove half the objects. If it prints, the problem is with the objects you removed. If it doesn't print, the problem is with the objects still on layout. Keep duplicating the original layout and/or removing objects until you have found the culprit (at least for that HP printer). Once you have isolated the object, remove it from the original layout. If it prints, there is something wrong with that object. Depending on the object, there can be a number of ways to fix the issue.
