Heathbo Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I have a FileMaker solution that is on a computer in the office. I know what the outside IP address is to get to that computer. How do I tell FileMaker to connect remotely to the IP address of that computer?
John Mark Osborne Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Open FileMaker on the remote machine and choose Open Remote from the File menu. Enter the IP Adress into the following dialog and you should see the database. This assumes you have setup the computer in your office to share properly and have opened up the firewall (if you have one). In order to allow FileMaker Pro TCP/IP traffic through a firewall, the firewall must be configured to allow UDP and TCP traffic into and out-of port number 5003.
Heathbo Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 I can access the database through a web browser because web publishing is turned on. But when I try to connect remotely and type in the same IP address FileMaker says its not a valid file path. If I put the fmnet:// then the IP address the open button greys out.
John Mark Osborne Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 You also have to enter the name of the file and only one slash. For example: fmnet:/10.0.1.2/INVOICE Or, you can add a domain name or IP Address (without a file name) to the Favorite Hosts area and be able to list all of the files being shared.
