tomp Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I would like my users to be able to direct their output to a specific printer, but not go through the dialog every time they choose to print a screen or a report - choose the printer once and all other print requests go to that printer without dialog. I have a script for 'printer selection' which has the step 'print[]'. They can choose from printers listed in the 'printer:' drop down list and a test page is printed. This works. When they run another script in the same application that is used to print a report or some other screen, I use 'print[no dialog]' or 'print[restore;no dialog]' and in either case the job goes to the queue but does not print. When opening the queue, I click on 'start jobs', the job still does not print and the 'start jobs' button reappears. I've removed/added the printer, done a printer reset, cold started the machine, unplugged the printer, etc in all combinations all to no avail. The only unusual thing I notice is that when going to 'System Preferences/Print & Fax' and clicking on '+', I get the printer name repeated in the 'print using:' box even though there is only one entry in the list of printers. Could that be causing the confusion? Since the 'Reset Printing System' in the Printer setup utility doesn't clear those entries, I don't know what to do. I'm using an Epson Stylus CX4600 printer. Thanks in advance for any insights into this
dharlow Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 What platform are you have problems on? If is is OS X Panther sounds like your printing sub-system is messed up and you should either do a clean install of the OS or try to use Printer Setup Repair and see if that can fix it. Daniel
goldie Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I've had the same problem - scriptmaker doesn't hold the selected printer. When the script step says to print on my Epson, the print dialog displays the last used printer. I'd hoped 8.5 would fix this. I thought there was a FMP7 plug-in to get around this. Has anyone heard of one?
