Data Entry with limited space

Featured Replies

I don't want to put the descripton of the fields name e.g. "First Name" above, below or to the side of the field, is there a way to get it to appear before the user clicks on the field and then disappear with the users inputs the information.

I think this is like a mask but i can't get it to work, I have been searching the forum without any luck.

I have a limited amount of space for the look and feel that i'm going for.

Thank you.......Tina Marie

There are reasons that I wouldn't do this, but you could use the Option of Auto Enter, I have made a quick demo of this,

already tried this, i didn't like that it populated the field with "First Name"

I was thinking of something more of a trick like a script that takes you in and out of the field like a mask script, seems like i did this a while ago before fm7 came out where you needed to mask the password or fields like that.

anyway, i didn't know if it could be done, i just thought it would safe me a whole lot of space if i could just have underneath the field the description until they typed into the field then the it basically gets covered up. i just can't figure it out.

thanks

Hi

how about using tool tips ?

Thanks for replying

With a whole bunch of blank empty fields it really doesn't look good, I'm afraid that the users will not know really what to make of that.

I am still beating away at trying to figure it out tho.

Thanks

...and with a careful use of TAB CONTROLS ?

You can put a calc field underneath the real field, with a calc =

Case ( IsEmpty ( Field ) ; "Fieldname" )

One repeating calc field (broken up to individual instances) can take care of any number of fields on the layout (search for a demo called "Field Factory" by LaRetta).

having problems trying to find "field factory" it is too common of a word.

could you try to explain what it is about so i can try and emulate what it is i am supposed to do.

thank you.....tina marie

I have made it work as you had said as far as the calc field.

how can i have only one of these fields like you continued on to say so that it works for all of my fields on the layout?

thank you......and thanks for getting me on the right track.

It's here .

TIP: next time, search for "+field +factory".
