I am trying to print flashcards that I have created - idea is simple. Front side 'word' - Back side 'definition'. - I have made the layout fairly simple with multiple cards on one page (The cards are not very big) - 21 cards per page. - I go to preview mode - looks great. I've got front and back layouts made.

Now I want to print the cars - front and back - but here is the problem - I can't get the "A" card (Top left) to match up with the "A" back. - because both layouts print the cards in order. - The "A" front needs to be printed top left - no problem, but the "A" back needs to print on the top right.

So currently the "A" front would be matched up with the "C" back - and so on. Not what I am wanting.

I have tried everything I can think of to get this to work - I just want to print the sheet out - front and back - have the correct info match for each card - and then cut the flashcards - Any thoughts? Thanks in advance (See attach image)

Come on guys... I know you can figure this out and point me in the right direction. This is the smartest Filemaker group out there - if you can do it... It can't be done..

Please put your Filemaker thinking caps on and try and figure this out. I am still busting brain cells here trying to figure out a way to print 2 sided flashcards!!

Thanks

It's a simple matter of grouping and sorting. Assuming that your cards are numbered sequentially, and that your layout is set to print 'across first', you need to calculate the row number of each card, which is simply:

Div ( SerialID -1 ; 3 )

To print the front, sort the cards by SerialID, ascending.

To print the back, sort the cards by RowNumber, ascending and SerialID, descending.

This is also asssuming that the total number of cards is a multiple of 3. If that's not the case, you need to import the cards into a printing table, and add 1 or 2 dummy cards to bring the total number to a multiple of 3. All of this can be scripted.

Thanks so much for the reply

You stated:

" To print the back, sort the cards by SerialID, ascending.

To print the back, sort the cards by RowNumber, ascending and SerialID, descending.

Did you mean "To print the [color:red]Front, sort the cards by SerialID, ascending."

I will try and let you know - thanks again...
