Darryl W Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hi, Probably a very simple question for most of you, but, is there any way to import a table AND its contents from one file to another? I've tried copy and paste, but it does not retain the data. Importing the table doesn't retain the data. It seems I have to import the table and then import all the data. Any way to do this all in one step? Thanks!
Ender Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Greetings Darry! This can be done in the Import dialog, within the destination menu. But use this power only for good! That means refrain from the temptation of importing different sets of similar data into separate duplicate tables.
Darryl W Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Thanks, I found it. For the benefit of others, go to File -> Import Records -> File, then choose the source table, and for the destination, choose New Table.
Rodriggo Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Ender, how can I import data from excel to filemaker 5.5, which is supposed to fit into repeating fields? I read the manual (FM 2.0) on SYLK but it seems related to exporting rather importing. I would appreciate your help again. Regards, Rodrigo
Ender Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Why ask me? I wouldn't import into a repeating field. I'd normalize the file and import those items into a related file.
Rodriggo Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 You helped me before with importing data form fm 2.0 into later versions of fm. I did not understand about normalizing the file. I just need to import columns of excel into a repeating field, without opening a new register for each cell of the column. Thanks.
