combo Field with pop up menu

Hi there (I think this in wrong section... is posable some one can move it)

I have this problem..... With setting up Combo address field for my "Job instruction" layout and print instruction layout

What I trying to do is set up combo delivery address field pop up menu and draw data from any of my client postal address in the "Job instruction" layout

But when I try to do this get pop up dialog box saying "This action cannot be performed because this field is not modifiable"

I can get a combo field to show the address of the "who" the job instruction is too, but I need to select a postal address from any of my clients from a list

Attached is a clone of the database

Does any one have throughs on this? It great hear from you

Why do you want a lookup. Shouldn't the address automatically populate the field?

Your goods delivery address should reside in clients then by going to your shipping/Job Instruction layout the data will already be there. You do not have to let the user chose anything.

Hack you have the value list attached to a calculation field. You cannot change the data directly into a calculation field. You need to have the value list as a pull down attached to a text data field.

thanks for your reply I through I needed to create an combo calculation field as the postal address is spread over three fields??

How do you get them all three of them into one Pull down list, so I dont have do three separte pull down list of the postal address fields

I tryed look at the attached FMP file but it was old version of my database? and with no changes not sure whats going on here

Damian,

If you try and use the field 'Combo Postal address' as the field of reference in your value list it will not work properly because of the paragraph marks, it will essentually add them to your value list.

Consider creating a new calc field with commas instead of the pilcrow (paragraph) symbol to use in your value list. Then attach the value list to a text field.

Also I did notice that your calc field 'Combo Postal address' is set to result in a number and it should actually be set to text.

thanks for up loading the file, yes i have managed to do the same thing at my end

the only problem is what if the delivery address is different to the Client postal address

What I am wanting to do is use any postal address on my client list, is this possble with pop up combo list

Please explain, are you trying to have a value list where there are several different fields, e.g. ::Contact_Address; ::Shipping_Address; ::Mailing_Address showing in one drop down field?

I'm not sure if that can be done.

Sorry I have not got back to you... I have been away on the road and not near a computer.... But I have had time to think what I am trying to do.

What I am trying to do.... I have two different layout tables, one print instructions and the other job/memo instructions etc.

Within the print instructions I have proof delivery and final delivery addresses. These addresses can be different as there can be multiple people involved in the project, so what I am trying to do is use any of the addresses in the client list for delivery address not just related to this particular project.

Hope this helps on the description of what I am trying to do.
